Saying Yes To Homeschool
For years I wondered if I'd ever get to write this blog post, and now that I am, I'm sitting here grinning with excitement and anticipation -- and also with a hunch that I might be slightly unhinged. ;)
Here's the big announcement:
This year will be our first year of homeschool.
I know, right?
If you were a reader of my previous blog, you might remember how much I was drawn to the idea homeschooling. My research started before Gretchen was walking (hell, it started before I was pregnant) and I always thought that would be our path.
When the time came to send her off for her first day of school, I wasn't in a place where homeschooling would have made sense for our fam, so I opted to send her to a Montessori school where she's been for the last three years -- and which we absolutely LOVE. The teachers have become like family, Gretchen has thrived, and I'm grateful to every single moment she spent inside those walls.
So, you might be wondering why I've decided to make the move to homeschooling if we love her school so much...?
The answer comes down to the simple fact that the stars aligned and my gut said oh hells yes.
Previously, homeschooling was out of the question because we lived in a rather petit apartment and because Rich and I run our media company from home.
It wouldn't have been good for anyone.
Last spring, when Rich left his broadcast television career of 12 years, it was so that we could build a business that gave us the freedom to design our own lives.
And we have.
We hustled, we brought on a VA (Berit, we love you!), and as I was able to have more and more freedom in my own workday (ie. deciding when, where, and how I was going to get shit done) I started to allow the idea of homeschooling to come off the back burner and back into my brain.
When we signed the lease on our dream rental last week (btw we're moving in a month -- more on that coming soon) I made the decision that this would be the year we'd embark on our homeschooling adventure.
The stars did their part and we'll do ours.
I have so much more to say about this (you can definitely expect homeschooling to come up on the blog + vlog) but for now I just wanted to share the news that I've been excitedly harbouring for the last few weeks.
Let the adventure begin. Peace out.
